Today, the health of healthcare professionals is the focus of numerous studies and specific protocols defined on the basis of work areas and types of problems reported.
Recently, in the UK, 130 anonymous surveys were sent out to surgeons of different specialties. Almost 80% of them mentioned suffering from musculoskeletal pain on a regular basis.

The musculoskeletal discomforts are mainly the consequence of the “forced” position of the surgeon needed to control the patient-instrument-monitor triangle.
The postures of the staff are also mainly aimed at providing a better view of the intervention area, involving physical proximity to the patient and a direct view of the surgery area. This bent-forward posture assumed by the staff results in increased muscular efforts to balance the upper body and contractions of the lumbar muscles.

THE FALKO 3D VISOR
FALKO is the innovative Head-Mounted Display (HMD) designed and developed by Tecnomed Italia specifically for the medical field. The visor, which is registered as a medical device and complies with EU Regulation 2017/745 and the relevant harmonised standards, is designed for use in hospital operating theatres, surgery centres and clinics.
FALKO allows visualising video information from any medical imaging equipment, including magnifying cameras, micro-operators, dynamic navigation hardware for surgery, multi-parameter monitors, ultrasound scanners and more, in real time.
By wearing it, the medical professional has the possibility to work with an enlarged view of the area, constantly maintaining a correct posture, looking towards the patient, and with perfect hand-eye coordination.
A distinctive aspect of FALKO is the dedicated software, which enables telecooperation in healthcare. This allows medical professionals from all over the world to actively participate in a surgery remotely, as if they were physically present in the operating theatre.
When the point of view of the practitioner wearing FALKO is shared with authorised remote users, they are able to make real-time notes to the surgical video. These notes can be made in different forms, such as freehand signs, written text or predefined shapes, and are visualised in real time by the practitioner as augmented reality elements, superimposed on the area visible through the viewer.

The most advantageous thing about wearing the FALKO HMD visor is that the surgeon does not have to look away from the surgical site, unlike with common imaging techniques, and with a second FALKO visor connected to FALKONNECT worn by the other staff member, it is finally possible to have another point of view.
A second FALKO can be connected; with the dual configuration, even assistant surgeons can now choose an ergonomic working position and enjoy the same high-quality view of the surgical area. Furthermore, the assistant wearing the second FALKO can see, in addition to his or her own natural perspective of his or her own surgical field taken with a second video source (such as our OKKIO camera), exactly what the lead surgeon sees. In turn, the lead surgeon can see what the assistant surgeon sees from the assistant’s perspective.

“What I find to be particularly interesting is the function of telecooperation, which means sharing the visor’s view operating in real time with colleagues, assistants or students. Finally, with an accessory called FALKONNECT, a second visor worn by another staff member, like an assistant, can be connected, adding another POV of the surgical field with the active PIP function. The assistant wearing the second visor can see what the first operator sees from their perspective, in addition to their own POV of the surgical field.
